Connacht U-16 Club Hurling Final
Tough Test Ahead For Tooreen
Tooreen v Beagh

on Saturday 12th November
at 1.30 in Ballyhaunis

The Tooreen U-16 Hurlers face their toughest test of the year as they face Galway U-16 B Hurling Champions Beagh on Saturday next in Ballyhaunis at 1.30. This game, win or lose for Tooreen will see the end of their U-16 campaign which started last April.

Little is known of the travelling South Galway opposition other than the fact that they recently overcame Killimordaly (2-12 to 2-9) in a closely contested Galway U-16 B Final. The club, which is based just outside Gort on the Galway-Clare border recently contested the Galway Intermediate Hurling final which they lost to Tommy Larkins (Woodford). However, Beagh regained their Senior Hurling status for the first time in many years. Their most famous hurling sons include the Gantley brothers - Finbar, Rory and Joe - all of whom have donned the Galway Senior jersey in recent years.

For Tooreen it will be unchartered waters also, as they have never reached a Connacht final at this grade before. The East Mayo nursery have had a relatively easy journey to this stage with their only close encounter coming in their two-point semi-final defeat of Four Roads (Roscommon) recently. Players of note for Tooreen include Cathal Freeman, Alan Freeman, Joey Ganley, Kenny Feeney and Daniel Jordan and will all relish the challenge of the higher standard of hurling. The Tooreen team is managed and coached by Dom Greally.
