Mayo's
hope's of remaining in the Tier Two Hurling Championship for 2006
were dealt a hammer blow as Roscommon came from behind in the dying
minutes of the game with a goal in injury time to snatch victory.
The goal, which was scored by late substitute Gary Waldron now consines
Mayo to a relegation do-or-die battle against Derry on 13th August,
with the losers plying their trade in the Nicky Rackard Cup for
2006.
Mayo outhurled their neighbours for most of the second period but
failed to finish off the Roscommon challenge. Adrian Freeman finished
the game with 0-9 while Stephan Broderick ammassed 0-4 from midfield.
