Sligo
IT made it a football and hurling double last weekend in Limerick,
as their hurlers were in excellent form as they took the Ryan Cup
(Division 2) Title. To the fore on the Sligo IT team was Tooreen
and Mayo hurler Stephen Coyne, as he helped his college to wins
over the Tipperary Institute (3-11 to 0-9) in the semi final and
Carlow IT (3-13 to 0-5) in the final.
Unfortunately Keith Higgins, who was man of the match in the Sigerson
Cup final, was unable to take his place in the forward line in either
encounter, as an illness over the weekend prevented the Ballyhaunis
man from
participating. As it turned out, his services were not required
as a Ger Farragher (Galway) led attack made easy work in both matches
on their way to the title. The Fitzgibbon Cup final, which was also
held in Limerick over
the weekend was won by Limerick IT, who overcame fellow Shannonsiders
UL in a one sided final
