Ballyhaunis
2-16 Ballina 1-5
Played on Sunday morning in Ballina, this game saw the current champions
set out their intentions for the year ahead with an impressive display
against the home side. Strong first half displays from Derek McConn,
Chris McCrudden and Keith Higgins saw Ballyhaunis race into a 0-10
to 0-2 half time lead. A John Dunne Ballina goal brought the moysiders
back into contention midway through the second half, but Ballyhaunis
finished strongest with two goals in the final ten minutes from
Keith Higgins and sub Liam Lyons giving Ballyhaunis an easy victory

Tooreen
3-9 Castlebar 1-6
Played in monsoon conditions in McHale Park, Castlebar on Saturday
evening, the home side put up a gallant effort against Tooreen but
in the end the extra guile of the east Mayo men pulled them through.
First half goals from Brian Delaney and Stephen Coyne gave Tooreen
a 2-4 to 0-3 half time cushion, but in fairness, Castlebar never
gave up. A Darren Greaney long range free found its way to the back
of the Tooreen net halfway through the second half to put five points
between the teams. But a strong finish from Tooreen which saw sub
Enda Kenny record two fine points and Delaney getting his second
goal of the game, giving Tooreen a comfortable victory in the end.

Westport
5-17 Belmullet 1-7
Westport stamped their authority on lowly Belmullet with this massive
22 point victory at Drum on Saturday evening last. Playing with
the aid of the strong breeze in the opening half, Belmullet stayed
in contention and went in at the break 1-5 to 0-10 in arrears. The
Westport forwards totally opened up in the second half and goals
from Rory Brennan (2), Dermot Tiernan and Dermot Kelly left Westport
well in front at the final whistle.
