Double for Mayo in 1963
Mayo had a double Championship Victory with their Minors deteating Roscommon 3-5 to 1-5 and the Juniors having a 3-4 to 1-5 victory over Galway.

All-Ireland Double

Mayo minors had always been to the fore in Connacht well ahead of every other county.in 1966 the county won its 20th Connacht title,captained by SeamusO'Dowd of Ballina Stephenites.
In their first game they beat Sligo 4-10 to 0-7.
In the Connacht final Mayo defeated Connacht Champions Roscommon-who were powered by Dermot Earley and Jimmy Cox by 1-9 to 0-7.
In the All-Ireland Semi-Final,heloed by a great midfield display from Seamus O'Dowd and Tony Joyce and three smashing goals from the flying Des Griffiths,highly vaunted Cork were submerged.
In the All-Ireland final against Down,Mayo were at their best and won by 1-12 to 1-8 after leading 1-8 to 0-3 at the interval.
A high ball into the square from Joe Joe Timoney, helped to the net by Aiden Kelly and Jim Smyth helped to seal Down's fate.
