1969

The scene was now set for another Galway V Mayo Connacht final, this one in Pearse Sradium,Salthill.
The game, played before 25,000 spectators had drama galore, right up to the dying seconds when Joe Corcoran pointed a 21 yard free to bring Mayo level - Galway 1-8, Mayo 0-11.
The replay in Castlebar on August 3rd was eagerly awaited.
Galway had never won a S.F.C. replay against Mayo.
Would the trend continue?
Mayo continued their replay supremacy over Galway, winning deservedly by 1-11 to 1-8 by a fitter, faster and more determined Mayo team.
John Morley and Joe Earley were pillars in defence,Des Griffith,Willie McGee and John Nealon shone in attack, while Joe Langan finished in ablaze of glory.
Just a week later in August 10th,Mayo came so close to toppling Kerry,in the All-Ireland semi final, before losing in the end by 0-14 to 1-10.
Mayo were best served by Eugene Rooney,Ray Prendergast and John Morley whose duel with Kerry's Pat Griffin was the great confrontation of the day.
